I created Mania Insights to bring reporting, analysis, and personal perspective to a subject that too often remains hidden: bipolar disorder, and especially mania.
As a journalist, I’ve spent years telling other people’s stories. But when I experienced mania firsthand, I realized how little information there is about what it feels like, how it unfolds, and what happens afterward.
There is a robust public conversation around mental health issues like depression or anxiety, while mania—intense, disruptive, and sometimes destructive—could use more, in my opinion.
This blog is my attempt to add to the conversation. Here, I approach bipolar disorder with the same tools I use in the newsroom: research, interviews, critical analysis, and clear writing.
My goal is to separate facts from myths, connect the latest science with lived experience, and give voice to stories that deserve to be told.
In Mania Insights you’ll find:
• Reported pieces on new studies, treatment research, and expert perspectives.
• Firsthand accounts of mania, depression, and recovery.
• Resources and reflections that might help those living with the disorder, as well as their families and communities.
I know I don’t have all the answers, so I’d like to use this as a platform to learn more and and help readers make sense of a complex condition.
If you’re here as someone with lived experience, as a loved one, or simply as a curious reader, I hope this work helps you see mania and bipolar disorder with greater depth and humanity.
