Reality star Kim Kardashian reflects on marriage amid public mental health struggles
— Kim Kardashian reflected on her toxic marriage to Kanye West, describing how the rapper’s struggles with bipolar disorder and manic episodes shaped their relationship and eventual divorce, during a recent interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
In the episode released in mid-October, Kardashian, 44, recounted moments of instability during their marriage, including what she described as an incident in which West gave away five of their Lamborghinis to friends during a manic episode. He had five Lambos, and he gave them all away to his friends during a manic episode, she said.
Kardashian, who shares four children with West — North, 12; Saint, 9; Chicago, 7; and Psalm, 6 — said the unpredictable behavior created a lack of stability in their home. She filed for divorce in 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
West, who legally changed his name to Ye, publicly revealed his bipolar diagnosis in 2018 and has discussed it in interviews and music. Kardashian said she tried to protect their children from the fallout of his episodes, she told host Alex Cooper.
She added that the manic episodes often brought uncertainty into their lives. There were times when it was really hard, Kardashian said, noting she sought therapy and outside support to cope.
Despite the challenges, Kardashian expressed respect for West as a father. He’s an amazing dad, she said, emphasizing her focus on their children’s well-being.
The interview, which also touched on Kardashian’s business ventures and family dynamics, underscored the complexities of navigating mental health issues in high-profile relationships.
